California produces much of its electricity from renewable resources (www.eia.gov). In 2018, it was second to only Washignton State for eletricity generated from renewable resources, including hydroelectric power. The new 2019 version of the Calvcifonia energy code now requires a minumum amount of Photvoltaic electoical generation for new homes. California’s total energy consumption is second-highest in the nation, but, in 2018, the state’s per capita energy consumption was the fourth-lowest, even though it has the highest population (www.eia.org). This is partially a result of its mild climate and partially due to its energy conservation policies.
In 2018, California ranked first in the nation as a producer of electricity from solar, geothermal, and biomass resources and fourth in the nation in conventional hydroelectric power generation.
